Oil FC clinch Challenge Gold Cup

DULIAJAN, Nov 11 - Defending champions and host OIL FC clinched the title of the 5th OIL India Challenge Gold Cup Football Tournament organized by Oil India Limited at Nehru Maidan for the third time drubbing Punjab Police of Jallandhar 2-1 in the final.

In a dominating and well coordinated match, OIL FC's hired Nigerian player Stiphen initiated the attack by netting the first goal in the 5th minute which was equalized by Amondeep Batra in 35th minute. And later, Jayanta Basumatary of OIL FC fired the winning goal in the 71st minute. Stiphen was cautioned for rough play in 86th minute.

Today's final match was officiated by Dwijendra Mohan Sarmah as referee, Rajib Saikia and Hiren Barman of Nalbari as assistant referees. Ohiduz Zaman of Nagaon was the fourth referee of the match while Juga Dutta of Tinsukia acted as match commissioner.

In the closing function, chief guest Diganta Borah, SP of Tinsukia, handed over the trophy along with the cash prize of Rs 1,30,000 to the OIL team while guest of honour M J Bordoloi, resident chief executive (I/c) of OIL gave away the runners-up trophy along with the cash prize of Rs 70,000 to the police team.

The function was attended by Anjan Hazarika, GM(HR), OIL, Rameswar Teli, MLA Duliajan along with other OIL officials and media personnel. About 6000 strong crowd enjoyed the well contested match. A souvenir was published on the occasion which was released by the chief guest Borah. Ragui Singh of OIL FC was adjudged best player.
