Sivasagar top medal tally of PYKKA meet

By our Sports Reporter, GUWAHATI, Sept 17: Sivasagar is leading in the points tally collecting 15 medals including seven golds in the first day of the 1st State Level Annual Sports Meet under PYKAA which got under way at the Sarusajai Sports Complex on Wednesday. Sonitpur and Barpeta are in the second and third position collecting seven and five medals respectively.

Manaspratim Gohain and Nibedita Barman bagged the fastest boys' and girls' title respectively in the tournament, as both of them finished the 100 mts race staying in the first position in their respective categories. Manaspratim represented Nagaon while Nibedita took part in the tournament as a member of Nalbari team.

The inaugural function of the 1st State Level Annual Sports Meet under PYKAA was attended by Asom Sports Minister Bharat Narah as the chief guest.

Among others who were present in the function were- MLA Robin Bordoloi, Sports Commissioner VS Bhaskar, Member Secretary of SLAC Rekibuddin Ahmed, Director of Cultural Department Swapnanil Barua, former Umpire Suren Ram Phukan, Sports Organizer NN Singha and Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Sanjiv Gohain Barua.

Meanwhile, one-time ex-gratia to the former sportsperson for the year 2008-09 was handed over today in the inaugural function PYKKA meet. Altogether 16 players were selected for the ex-gratia. All received Rs 25,000 each along with a silver plaque, shawl and a gamosa. The players who today received one-time ex-gratia: Tosen Borah (Football), Ananda Laskar (Football), Debajit Kumar Choudhury (posthumously, Volleyball), Oley Bhuyan (Badminton), Samsul Haque Barbhuya (Volleyball), Ananta Roy (Football), Dipendra Kr Mukherjee (Football), Nali Naksha Pal Choudhury (Football), Amol Kar (Football), Durga Bora (Athletic), Ganesh Ch Das (Cricket), Chandan Singh (Football), Jawaharlal Gupta (Football), Kubal Daimary (Football), Naren Nath (Football) and Pratap Sonowal (Cricket).
