Nagaland Police fix date with ASEBSC in Bordoloi Trophy final

By our Sports Reporter, GUWAHATI, Sept 16: Nagaland Police's good run in the Bordoloi Trophy continued as the side upset defending champion Oil India Limited Football Club (OILFC) by a solitary goal in the second semi final to earn the final berth in the 58th Bordoloi Trophy Soccer Tournament held at Nehru Stadium here today. Nagaland Police will now face ASEBSC in the final which will be held on Friday.

It was the second upset done by Nagaland Police in this edition of the tournament. They earlier shown the door to Mohammedan Sporting in the quarter final. Like the quarter final, Nagaland Police today also played a very calculative game putting more players on the defence and waited for the opportunities to go for counter attack.

On the other hand, Oil India Limited Football Club, who went to the ground as favourite, perhaps were over confident. Otherwise, the opportunities the side got in the 90 minutes were enough to settle the game in favour of them. Jayanta Basumatari alone missed more then five easy opportunities.

The only goal, that OILFC conceded, was a lapse from the side of goalkeeper. Namoaiboungnane's free kick couldn't be collected properly by goalkeeper Prandeep Dutta and ball came out from his hand which was pushed in by Saku in the 60th minute of the match. Thereafter, OILFC opened several opportunities but all were wasted.

Meanwhile, the final match of the tournament will be held on Friday where Nagaland Police will now meet ASEBSC. ASEBSC in the other semi final, defeated Peerless Club, Kolkata by 2-1 on way to march into the title clash.
