> Jayanta bags bronze, Pratima gold
 

GUWAHATI, April 25: Assam girl Pratima Boro won a gold in the women’s recurve 60 mts event of the 30th Senior National Archery Championship held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex here today. Pratima, who took part in the tournament from Railways side, gave the home crowd a moment to cheer by winning the title.

However, another Assam archer Jayanta Talukdar today failed to come out as per the expectation and he had to satisfy with a bronze medal in the 30 mts distance of men’s recurve event. Baidyanath of UP bagged gold collecting 354 points while Priyam of ITBC won silver medal in this event.

In the 50 mts men’s recurve distance Atanu Rai of SPSB collected gold medal with 344 points while A Raju and Tarundeep Rai won silver and bronze medal in this category.

Mangal Singh Champia of Indian Railways won the gold medal in the 70 mts men’s recurve distance event. He collected 339 points on way to win the gold. Priyam and Tarundeep Rai finished second and third respectively in this category. On the other hand, in 90 mts men’s recurve distance A Raju of Indian Railways, Priyam of ITBP and Kapil (Chandigarh) finished first, second and third respectively.

A Raju also won gold medal in the men’s over all category collecting 1,641 points. Priyam and Tarundeep Rai finished second and third respectively. In the women’s compound over all category Namita Yadav of Indian Railways bagged the gold collecting 1,373 points. Sakro Bisra, also from Railways and Jhanu Hasda (Jharkhand) finished second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, several archers were injured in the cyclone that lashed the city yesterday evening. The archers gathered at the food stall at the time of cyclone which damaged a few temporary infrastructure, which were created for the tournament, at the Sarusajai Sports Complex. # #
