Bijoy gets double crown in Asian Juniors
Sports reporter, GUWAHATI,
Feb 10 - Bijoy Kumar Mohanty of Assam, seeded
6th, brought home his first Asian ranking title.
In the final, 3rd seed
Vasisisth Cherokoo of Andhra Pradesh trailing
2-6, 0-2, conceded the match in the Asian Juniors
under 14 years event which concluded at the Lal
Bahadur Sashtri Stadium, Hyderabad today.
After winning the singles
title, Bijoy pairing with Aryan Goveas of Maharashtra
came on to win the doubles event defeating Shreya
Gupta of Haryana and Shree Krishna of Bihar 6-3,
6-4 to make it a double crown for himself in the
tournament.
For Bijoy, it was a gradual
rise in the four Asian Under 14 Series Tournaments
that was held between October 2011 and February
2012.
In the Jorhat tournament
he lost in the quarterfinals while at Lucknow
he reached the semifinal stage. At Bangalore,
he was a finalist and now in Hyderabad he finally
became a winner.
Bijoy Kumar Mohanty is a student of Dav School,
Guwahati.
He trains at the Sports
Authority of India North-east sub-centre, New
Field here and is under the development programme
of the All Assam Tennis Association which supports
his technical requirements and expenses for participation
in tournaments with Babolat sponsoring his equipment.
