GUWAHATI, March 26 Manipur emerged
overall champions in the four-day National Masters Athletic
Championship which came to an end at the Indira Gandhi Stadium,
Sarusajai here today. Manipur won 103 medals including 42
golds and 41 silvers.
However, Tamil Nadu and Manipur won the top positions in
the mens and womens groups respectively while
host Assam had to be satisfied with the third position in
both the groups. But the Assam athletes won a total number
of 141 medals, including 36 golds in both the groups.
The Tamil Nadu men captured 25 gold, 26 silver and 13 bronze
medals while the Manipur women clinched 31 gold, 28 silver
and 14 bronze medals. Manipur men and Tamil Nadu women took
the second positions in the medal tally.
Assam men won 9 gold, 23 silver and 23 bronze medals while
their women counter part came out with a rich haul of 27
gold, 32 silver and 36 bronze medals.
The organisers had a tough time in last four days as around
2500 veteran athletes from 23 states were busy in displaying
their skills in various track and field events. The athletes
took part in the championship with true spirit.
